How can I get my premium features transferred to my new blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

I recently purchased the premium upgrade on my account and started using wordpress the “easy way.” When I decided I needed more editing capabilities, I deleted the old blog and started a new one by uploading all the files myself. I still see that I purchased the upgrade in my billing history but I cannot get my existing domain name to map to my new blog. Is that something that has to be switched over on your end?

    Thanks!

  • You can point the domain you registered at WordPress.com to another server (hosting service), with these steps:

    Change a Domain’s Name Servers

You’ll need to obtain the name server values from your current host. You should be able to find them on their support documentation, or contact them and ask for the information. (Name servers may be referred as “nameservers” or “NS records” instead.)

I hope this helps – let me know if you have any more questions!

It says that I do have my name servers updated to the current wordpess ones. Unfortunately, once I changed my blog from one that I only edit on the wordpress site to one that I upload myself, only my old page will show up. It won’t let me use my personal domain name because it says it is already using wordpress. It seems to be hung up on the old blog page. I may just be missing a step but I’m not sure what that would be.

I see you have your nameserver records changed now. Is there anything else I can help you with?

I got everything up and running with my nameservers and made a bunch of edits to my blog. I chatted with support and she carried my premium subscription to my new blog. All was well. Later that evening, I tried to access my site and was given the redirect loop warning and could not access my blog at all. When I was finally able to get back to it, it had reverted back to my old blog and said I needed to subscribe to the premium service again. What I would like to do at this point is get a refund for the premium subscription and delete all of my account. Is that something you can do for me? I will then sign up fresh.

It’s possible that you got the redirect loop warning because the old address was still cached in your browser. Removing the upgrade and repurchase is not the right solution to fix this. Could you please try clearing out your cache and cookies using the guide below:

Let me know if that helps. Otherwise feel free to cancel and refund your upgrade at https://mlcarlino.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

I did try that many times and also tried viewing it on different devices. I actually first noticed on my phone. If there are other solutions, I am open to it. I’m just concerned that this problem will be reoccurring and I will lose my progress again.

Do you also encounter this issue in a different browser? for example Firefox or Safari?

Do you still get the redirect error? or are you missing content on your blog? if so, what are you missing?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have tried different browsers and still get the redirect error. When I actually go to customize my site, the preview is my old blog. None of the changes I made or new theme are visible.

If possible, send me a screenshot, so I can better understand the issue. You can simply upload the screenshot to your Media Library, like any other image, and I’ll be able to access it from there.

The page at the following link has some helpful tips for taking screenshots:

I uploaded a screenshot of the redirect error message. Is that the only one you need?

    Thanks.

    Thank you.

Do you also encounter this issue using a different Internet connection?

  • Unknown's avatar

I just had my boyfriend try it at work and the warning didn’t come up. The blog did come up but it seems that I lost all the changes I had made. Is there something I need to do with my internet connection?

  • Unknown's avatar

If your site is working from your friend’s place it might be that something is not working right on your home connection. Do you still encounter the same issue on your phone too? Have you also tried a different computer within your current network?

  • Unknown's avatar

It wasn’t working on any laptops or phones on my home connection. But it seems to be working now. What should I do if it reverts again? I don’t want to start building on my premium account again and then have it undo my work again.

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m glad it’s working again. It’s possible that your connection caused some strange issues there. You can just keep using your account and blog. Any changes made on your blog is automatically saved on WordPress.com.

Let me know if you encounter any oddities

Is there any way I can get back to my edits made before? I had started adding some plugins and content to a different theme and it’s gone. Actually, I am not even seeing the option to add plugins. Am I just missing them or can you help me with that?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m sorry but now I’m getting an “Invalid key. [10] back” warning when I try to go the page. I don’t know why I am having so many issues but this is very frustrating.

It sounds like that you have/had a self-hosted version of WordPress, probably running at 1 & 1 hosting. Your domain is now pointed at WordPress.com. Which means that it’s a completely different hosting, that’s probably why you don’t see the content you previously had.

To move your site from a WordPress.org instance to WordPress.com, please follow the steps in this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-org

About the Invalid Key error, are you perhaps using a satellite internet provider?
If not, are you using any firewall or privacy software? Or, are you using a service that makes your web traffic anonymous?

Are you able to process the refund for my premium subscription and domain name? It will not allow me to online because it says it has been over a month, which is not true. I had asked someone about transferring my self-hosted blog to 1and1 hosting and she did something and it worked temporarily. I always log in with wordpress.com so I don’t know why it seems hung up on wordpress.org. So I don’t see how I can switch it over. I would really prefer at this point that you just refund my $99 and delete any accounts or blogs I have. When I am ready again, I may venture to join wordpress and try again. At this point, it has been to unpredictable and I am need of getting my portfolio site up and running. I understand that there is some learning on my part but I cannot do this with all the issues right now. Thank you.
