how can i use jetpack on my self hosted site without a paid wordpress.com account

I’m trying to build a site to sell my books, but everywhere I turn, there’s only a paid version of something, including WordPress.com! I am already self-hosted, which isn’t cheap, so I need to be able to use jetpack on my self-hosted site without having to maintain a wordpress.com site, too. And I don’t want to map my site on wordpress.com. can someone help me understand this? I’m told by developers that I can use the FREE version of jetpack without a paid wordpress.com account – but you have conflicting answers! AARRGGGHHH -Somebody tell me the truth!

  • Hi there,

You don’t need to pay us anything to use Jetpack, no. You just need a WordPress.com username account, and you already have that.

Log into WP-Admin on your self-hosted site and install the Jetpack plugin if you haven’t yet. Then click on Jetpack in the admin menu and follow the steps there to connect it to your WordPress.com account, and that’s it.

There are of course paid Jetpack plans if you want to add more advanced security and backup features to your site, but those are optional.

You can find detailed information on how Jetpack works, and what’s included in the various plans, over at https://jetpack.com/

Please let me know if you have any more questions about this.
