How can the time limit on password protect cookies be decreased?
-
Hosted here at WordPress.com.
I want to decrease the time that the password is held on my only protected page. From what I’ve learned, the default is 10 days, and I would like it to be 15 minutes. I have read about code that can be put into the function.php file, but I haven’t a clue where I would find this and am even thinking that it isn’t available to me as WordPress.com is my host.
I know some HTML and I can learn more, but I don’t have any background in the technical code required to tell browsers how to render pages.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi Sue,
Theme files for sites hosted here at WordPress.com cannot be modified, so the change you mentioned for password-protected pages is not possible here. You can use custom design tools to change a theme’s appearance, but you cannot make changes to the theme’s HTML markup, PHP code, or content.
If you require this functionality, you may want to move your blog to a web host that supports theme code modifications using WordPress.org. You can learn more about the differences between sites hosted here at WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress.org sites here: WordPress.com and WordPress.org
Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks so much for the quick response. At least I can stop trying to do the impossible.
Now the big decision – to move or not.
