How can you set up your blog like an online magazine?

I’m just trying to figure out how to make my blog more like a magazine. I’ve set it up with the Oxygen theme, and I’m utilizing pages and really not including posts in the traditional blog format at all. Right now I plan on basically updating my pages each month by adding new articles and photos etc. and deleting my text from the previous month, but I’m wondering how to archive old issues. I’ve set up archives for each month, but as far as I can tell that’s for posts. I would use posts, but those only go to the main page and appear in chronological order. Is there a way I can have my posts go to individual pages instead of the main page? That I think would satisfy my needs, but I don’t think that’s an option.
    So how should I proceed?
    Thanks!

In the name of all that is holy, do not delete old content. Search engines will throw you down a well and walk away. Just use the Archives widget. AND use Posts. Pages have no attractiveness to search engines.

To have Posts go to individual pages, use Categories. http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/posts-on-pages/

Thank you raincoaster, I neglected to put my additional concern about also recognizing the need for posts to generate search engine results. I will check the link you provided. thanks again in advance.

You want the latest content at the top – not old stale stuff – when visitors visit they want to see new stuff and you don’t want them to dig for the new content –

Posts have Archiving features built in – it is automatic

Right, but I want the blog to look new each month, I don’t want all the old posts to show up in the new issue. I’m hoping the archive function will allow me to keep the old posts visible via a link to the previous issues without having them in the new issue.

You just need to blog enough that the posts they see at the top are all new.
