How deleting photos from media library affects past posts
-
I’m wondering what happens when I delete a photo from my media library – specifically, when said photo has been used in a published post. If I delete a file in the media library does it vanish from the published post, or remain in the published posts but become unusable in future posts without re-uploading? Does attached vs. unattached make a difference?

If you delete a file from the Media Library and it was used in a Post, it will also be deleted from the Post it was used in.

I did a test post and then deleted the image, but the post was unaffected. Maybe it hasn’t updated yet? Thanks for the info!

It may take a little while for the image to be removed from the background media deleted cache or your browser’s cache, but then it’s entirely gone.
You’re welcome.
If you are having space issues (quickly using up your free 3GB of space, that is), you should always optimize your images before uploading them. The biggest problem is uploading full-size images directly from your phone or camera. Here’s some info on that: http://en.support.wordpress.com/media/image-optimization/
