How do I add tabs with new writing to my menu bar?

I’ve tried adding menu tabs to my cowboywife.net website. I was able to get the tab on the menu bar, but it would not let me add any new writing. I do not want to categorize my blog, I want to have tabs for different subject matter on my menu bar. For example: Recipes, with a link on my menu bar and a tab to click on with a list of recipes to click on. I’ve watched tutorials and read and I can’t get it to work. Please help.

Have you looked into creating a Custom Menu? I think this is exactly what you need. By doing this you can add extra tabs next to your About page.
And you mentioned that you wanted to add tabs based on different subject areas. I think creating Category Pages would be best for this. These category pages allow you create pages with posts in certain categories. For example, you can set a Recipe category and every post listed in that category will show up on that particular page. These category pages can be added to the menu you created above as well.

Thank you, this helps some. However, while it did put the blog under my new menu tab, it also posted it on my regular home page blog. Is there any way to just put a recipe under that heading without it appearing in my main blog as well?

The main Posts page is set up to show all of your posts, including the ones in categories. However, if you planning on categorizing every post than what you can do is get rid of your Posts page, set up a static Front page and have no posts page – just category pages.
So, in order to do this, go to Pages > Add new and create a static Home page. This will be the first page your readers are taken to. Publish the page, and then go to Settings > Reading. Once you are there at the top set your Front page as a Static page and set your newly published Home page as your Front page. Leave the Posts page blank and you should be set.
But, please remember you have to create a Category Page for every new category and add that to your menu. Or else, your posts will not appear on your site.
