    There are two issues here:

    1. the domain you registered, which if it has been more than the 48 hours allowed for requesting a refund, will simply expire at the end of the year’s registration. Make sure that auto-renew is off in your dashboard or at your domain registrar.

    2. the site itself, which you can delete, following these instructions http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/ Just be aware that once you delete it, you can never get the content or the address back again. Better to change the site settings to Private under Dashboard>Reading>Privacy.

Jennifer, thanks. I understand how to delete a site that is not registered (with no registered domain). And yes, domains will expire after a year, if they are set to not auto-renew. (There are some fine points to that logic.) To clarify my question, “How do I delete a site associated with a registered domain?” I assume the answer is, “Sites associated with a registered domain cannot be deleted until the domain registration is allowed to expire.” Is that correct? So the next question is, “If I select the option to use the Word Press assigned sub-domain (e.g., xxx.wordpress.com), the domain will expire after the domain subscription period is over and the administrator selects it for deletion?” Thanks!
