How do I delete an expired domain and WordPress account permanently?

  My domain has expired.
  I do not wish to renew the domain with WordPress.
  I would like to remove ownership of the domain and WordPress account permanently.

  How do I do this properly?

  The domain has been removed from your account. WordPress.com accounts are permanent, but you can easily delete your blog. Read more about this here:

  If you are trying to unsubscribe from email sent to you from WordPress.com, go here and click on “Block all subscription emails from WordPress.com”.

  The reason I wished to remove ownership of my domain with WordPress was so that a colleague of mine could register the domain via another domain-registering service.

  However, he was unable to register it even after WordPress removed that domain from my WordPress account.

  Does WordPress now own the domain I denied to renew?
  How does one register for that domain again (outside of WordPress)?

  Expired domains become the property of our registrar partner and are returned to the public market at their discretion.

  We have no control over how long this takes.
