How do I display the FB "like" button, not just the FB "share" button?
-
My blog site is only displaying a Facebook “share” button, but I would like it to display the Facebook “like” button. I’ve been able to have this display in the past by changing the “sharing” settings, but that isn’t showing up now with the usual adjustments I make. Something change about the wordpress settings? Please help ASAP! thank you :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

So, if you head here:
https://allsensesconsidered.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=sharing
And look for the “button style” setting, you should be able to switch up the setting and get the behavior you are looking for. I’m almost positive that the “icon” style will do that, but the other options may as well.
Let me know if that works or if you have any trouble.

That is what I usually do – go to official buttons, which has always been a FB like button. But now there are only options to “share.” Nothing resembling a FB “like” button. Can’t find the FB like button anywhere!

After some testing, it looks like all those buttons open the “share” interface. So you may be out of luck.

Exactly. Do you know where else I can address this question? It may be specific to the theme/template? Are there specific help-desks/customer service folks for questions that others on the forums cannot answer?
Thanks for your help!

After some additional research, I have found the answer.
The Facebook “like” button has been replaced with the “share” button in order to bring it more in line with the other sharing services.
One advantage of encouraging people to actually share your content instead of just liking it is that the sharing should increase traffic to your site. “Likes” rarely drive traffic these days just due to the way that people have their Facebook feeds set up. You are far more likely to see something that is shared than something that is liked.

That’s true, but many folks may not want to necessarily share something on their FB feed, but still would like it given the chance. I do that often to articles and such that I read. We really should have the option to do both on WordPress. Not sure why that’s not feasible. Any thoughts as to a way to give this feedback to others who might be able to make changes or offer a way around this?
Thanks so much! -

By the way, is this an issue limited to my particular theme? Would I have the option of both types of FB buttons if I were to use a different theme?
Thx. -
