How do I export an RSS feed of blog posts to our main website?
-
Up until two weeks ago, we had a working RSS feed of the last three blog posts we made on our main website. However, it suddenly stopped working with a large ERROR message in the way. I was looking for other ways to show these blog posts on our main site, but I was unable to find an appropriate solution. Is there an update that I am missing? Or is there a workaround that I could put in. Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
The RSS feed for your blog is at this link: http://foxvalleygivingmatters.org/feed/
I don’t see any errors with the feed itself, so it should be working properly. It’s possible that the tool you were using on your website to display the blog posts had an error, in which case you may need to use a different tool.
If your main website is hosted here at WordPress.com, I can take a look and see what the problem is there. I’d just need a link to the page where you are getting that error message.

Hi Rachel
Apologies for the delay, I’ve been testing out a few things to narrow down the issue. I am pretty sure the issue is with the wordpress feed, as the widget on our non-wordpress main website runs rss feeds quite well from other sites. However, all of the feeds that this website widget reads are “.rss”……for example: http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_topstories.rss
Should I be using a different feed url from wordpress? What is most troubling to me is that, up until about 2 and a half weeks ago, this widget with the /feed/ link worked perfectly.

Hi there,
I can assure you that the feed I linked to above is the correct, valid RSS feed for your blog. Depending on what you are using to display the feed on your website, it could very likely be an issue with the widget itself. If you can give me a link to the page on your site where you are getting the error message, I’d be happy to take a look.

Here is a link to our web page.
http://www.cffoxvalley.org/page.aspx?pid=214
along the right side of the page, you can see three things. First, the “news reader” part (within our website’s infrastructure) reading the cnn rss link I linked in my previous reply to you. The second part, is the same news reader part attempting to read http://foxvalleygivingmatters.org/feed/. The third part, is a third party news reader html script reading http://foxvalleygivingmatters.org/?feed=rss merely pasted into the HTML section of our web page editor.
This is where my confusion is. Like i’ve stated before, the place that currently reads (error) on that news page was reading ……org/feed/ until a few weeks ago. Was there an update that went through that may have caused some incompatibility? I can’t find any patch notes on your website.

Thanks for providing that link. I looked at the three examples you mentioned — since the feed from your blog was working until a few weeks ago, it sounds like there may have been a change to the widget you are using.
The CNN RSS feed you are using on your site is going through a service called Feedburner. You can try running the feed for your blog through this service to see if your website’s widget works best that way. You can find more information at the Feedburner support site here: http://www.google.com/support/feedburner/
If you have any other questions about this issue, please let me know!
