How do I fix a redirect loop?

  • Unknown's avatar

My page ‘stgeorgebabysitter.com’ says ‘The webpage has a redirect loop.’ with the following details:
‘The webpage at https://stgeorgebabysitter.wordpress.com/ has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer.’
I have cleared cookies and allowed cookies, and changed by browser connection setting to always use HTTPS. I’m at a loss for what to try next. Can you please help me? This didn’t happen until I upgraded from stgeorgebabysitter.wordpress.com. Thank you.

    Hi Linda,

I helped you with this yesterday in your support thread here:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/too-many-reloads

In case you didn’t get my reply there, I’ll copy it here:

Right now, your domain stgeorgebabysitter.com is set up to redirect visitors to your WordPress.com address stgeorgebabysitter.wordpress.com. However, your WordPress.com address is set up to redirect visitors to your domain, so it creates a redirect loop (where visitors get constantly redirected to the other address in a loop).

You can fix that by pointing your domain to the WordPress.com name servers (instead of setting up a redirect) according to our guide to Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping). To do that, you will need to go to your domain registrar (where you registered your domain name) and update the domain’s name servers to these:

    • NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    • NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    • NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

Once that is done, your domain will point correctly to your WordPress.com site without any redirect problems. Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
