How do I free up my blog domain to be able to publish my own website?

  I love my wordpress blog but my small business is to the point that I need more control over the website content. So, I hired a web designer and he designed a page for me that I would now like to publish at the domain I have been using for my blog. I would like to know how I can free up the domain that my blog is currently using so that I may purchase it elsewhere and publish my own website.
