How do I get a real domain? How do I not have a blogsite but a regular website?

My friend made this website for me, but I wanted a regular website, not a blog. Also, my friend said that she paid extra to have the .wordpress. out of my domain name. How do I get a normal website? And why is .wordpress. still in my domain name?

WordPress.com is a blogging service, we can’t host other website files here.
To register a new domain, just add the desired domain via Store -> Domains in your blog’s Dashboard.
