How do I get better insight to Visitor/User identification?
-
I have an “invitation only” website. How do I see who has visited from my list? Also, if I’ve invited someone, why do I get a message that some have “accepted” and are apparently granted access immediately, while others I get a message that they’ve tried to access, and I need to grant access by unblocking them?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can use free third party stats like sitemeter and statcounter and others, but know that only Non-JavaScript codes in text widgets can be used and no others. See:

re: adding users
The person needs only to create a username account and there is an option for that provided for that purpose “username account only, please”.
Here is what the relevant support doc states:
They will need to click the “Accept Invitation” button in the invitation email. If they are logged into their WordPress.com account, they will be taken directly to your blog. If not, they will be taken to the log-in screen, where they can either log in or create a new user account.
Note that users who create a new WordPress.com account at that point will still need to return to the invitation email and click the “Accept Invitation” button after doing so.
If the person is not successful post again and provide all the details including the WordPress.COM username and the email address of the person. The software will redact ie. HIDE the email addresses so only Staff can see them. After you do that subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Hi there,
What timethief laid out should explain the issue you’re seeing with users accepting invitations.
We don’t track which specific users visit your site.
Is there anything else I can help with?
-
Thanks, although honestly, I really don’t fully understand timethief’s directions. I’m hoping to have time to work through it later this week.
But, didn’t there USED to be some ability to see who was accessing and reading the blog? I remember there being a log in step at one point.
-
Well, anyone can log in before viewing your site. But we don’t track which specific users actually visit your site. Does that make sense?
Let me know if I can clarify anything in timethief’s directions.
