How do I get Music to play when my BLOG is being looked at?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have downloaded FIVE ITune songs with the Music player widget to my BLOG and they don’t play.
My goal was to have each of the songs play in a random order when the blog is being read. Is this possible? What have I done wrong. I am at a VERY basic level with computers & BLOGS.
Thanks for your help & time.

    Hi Terri,

I see that you have the Music Player widget added to your sidebar, but there aren’t any songs added to it yet. To add songs to the music player, you can go to Appearance > Widgets in your dashboard, click on the “Music Player Widget,” and then click on the “Choose Songs” link there.

That will bring up a window where you can choose what songs to add to the player. After you choose the songs and add them to your playlist, you can save the widget settings and the music player will appear in your blog’s sidebar.

There isn’t a way to make those songs appear in a random order, but anyone who visits your blog will be able to start the music player and listen to all the songs while reading your blog. Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

    Thank you Rachel
I had done the steps you stated and I had chosen 4 songs and saved them. But can’t see/find them in the BLOG let alone turn them on (or how viewers turn them on). Is there anyway that the songs play automatically when the BLOG is viewed?

I am very new to this and don’t understand very much of what I am doing or why. I feel very confused and out of my depth. Many of the terms ………. Dashboard, Widget, Tag Cloud, Meta, RSS, more I don’t understand.

    Thanks for your time Rachel.

    Hi Terri,

I’m sorry for the confusion — let me take a step back to make sure we’re on the same page first. I’d like to make sure you’re comfortable with what’s going on with your blog as well as help you get this music player set up. :)

To start with, we have some resources that might help you get oriented with your blog and its settings:

    • Learn.WordPress.com gives an intro to the different pieces of your blog and how you can manage them
    • The Lexicon has explanations of some of the more common terms you’ll see (like Dashboard, Widget, and others)
    • You can also take a look at our overview support page about widgets here: Widgets

I mentioned the widgets page specifically because the music player you’re trying to add to your blog is a widget. Basically, widgets are any of the pieces of content you can add to your blog’s sidebar by going to Appearance > Widgets in your blog’s dashboard. Here’s a direct link to that page: https://wildliferescueandcare.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php

All of the widgets that are currently set up in your blog’s sidebar are listed in the section on the right titled “Sidebar 1.” I checked your widgets again, and I see that you have a music player with the title “Aussie Songs” set up. You can see that music player in your sidebar on specific pages like this one on your blog: http://wildliferescueandcare.wordpress.com/about/

Right now, though, that music player isn’t set up to be visible on your blog’s front page. That’s because each widget has visibility settings that can control which pages the widget shows up on. You can see those settings by going to your widgets page (at Appearance > Widgets in the blog’s dashboard) and clicking on the “Music Player: Aussie Songs” box in the “Sidebar 1” section on the right.

Next to the Save button in that widget’s settings, you can click on the Visibility button to see the music player’s visibility settings. Here’s a screenshot to show you what I mean: https://cloudup.com/cBOhFClFtqZ

If you want that widget to show up everywhere on your blog, you can click the Delete link next to the visibility rule that says “Show if Author is Wildlife Rescue and Care.” Here’s another screenshot to show you that: https://cloudup.com/cjbccfdrnWL

Then, you can click the Save button to save those settings for your music player. That will make your music player show up in the sidebar on all of the pages on your blog, including the front page: http://wildliferescueandcare.wordpress.com/

I hope that helps! But if you still have questions about getting the music player set up and working on your blog, or any other questions, please let me know and I’ll be happy to help further. :)
