How do I insert a link to a menu page?

  • Unknown's avatar

I would like to add product links to my page call “my favourite things”. I’ve managed to save a link from Amazon.ca affiliate program into my blog as one of the listed links categorized by “blog roll”. My problem is that I have not figured out how to insert such links into “my favourite things” page. I would like to be able to build a list of links with my product review appearing just below the link (that has an associated product photograph. The link specifically on my account is named “Fido Fleece Dog Boots”. Could you please provide me with specific instructions on how insert this link to the above-noted page? After I do this successfully once, I will know how to add other links to this page in the future.

I’ve followed the instructions of your guide without success. As such, I’m hoping you can provide me with specific customized instructions for my page and link to be an example of how to do this for me.

I’m currently using HTML format (not Visual).

    Please help.

    Thanks!

  • I’m not entirely sure what you’re referring to.

The page you mentioned is http://raisingagreatpuppy.wordpress.com/my-favourite-things/

You should be able to just edit that and insert the links as you would on any post or page.

I’m new to wordpress and this is my first attempt to add any link to any page. I can insert the link with the “link” editing option. I then update the page and when I view updated page nothing new is added to the page.
So I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

  • You can add links to a page or post following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/

Thanks for the advice, but in the HTML format, I have been doing what the instruction page indicates to click on Link, paste the full link address in the URL box and then I type in a title in the Title box. I then click on the Open to new window box and I click on update. When I view my updated page, There is nothing added to the page.
    What am I doing wrong?

  • Do you have any better luck in the Visual editor tab?

  • Also, make sure that you’re clicking the blue Update button to the right of the page editor to save the page itself.

In HTML mode, I just tried with clicking on the Update button on the right of the page editor as you suggested, but still nothing gets added to my page content. I then tried doing this in Visual mode and when I hover over the symbol to edit/insert a link it says to pres ALT + Shift + A. I keep doing this and nothing happens. The Edit/Insert a link button is not bold – as if it’s not an active option – don’t know if this is normal.
    Any further suggestions?

  • You don’t need to press the keys.

Just type the text you want to link, highlight it, and click the link button.

Thank you!!! It worked!!! The link is now on my page.
It’s appearing as text link that one can click on. I imagined it to appear as a hidden link activated by the “Title” that I entered in the Title Box so that the user would have to hover over and click on the Title Button to get to the linked page. Is this possible?

  • Can you tell me what you mean by “Title Box” and “Title Button”?

In the Visual editing mode, after I type the text of the link url on the page and highlight it, I then press on the link button. This opens up a dialogue box that allowed me to paste the url in the url box and there was a box below where I entered the Title for this URL. So I was hoping that the link would be visually hidden on the live published page with only that title that I entered into the Title box would appear on the published page for the user to hover and click on it. I don’t know if I’m describing this sufficiently for you to understand. Below is a copy of the dialogue box to which I’m referring:

    Enter the destination URL
    URL
    Title
Open link in a new window/tab

  • Ah, you’re doing it backwards.

Type the text the word(s) that you want to link, like “this page” or “this video” etc, then highlight those words, click the link button, and enter the URL.
