How do I insert my Akismet API Key

  • Unknown's avatar

    Morning,
I purchased the Akismet monthly SpamBlocker. They sent me an API Ky with instructions on how to manually add the new API Key but this was on the older WordPress sites where the Plug-in was under Appearance. You have now changed the Plug-in and I cannot find where to add the APi Key. Can you help? Could you add the Key in for me?

    Thanks

    Rodney

    Hi Rodney,

What site are you trying to use that Akismet API key with?

All sites hosted at WordPress.com have Akismet spam protection built in, and WordPress.com no longer uses API keys for sites hosted here, so you don’t need an Akismet plan or API key for your site at http://rodneyspray.wordpress.com/. If that’s the site you mean, let me know and I can refund that plan for you.

    Hi rachelmcr
Thanks for your reply. I purchased the Akismet to block the spam in my posts. I find that all through my posts that certain words are in another text higlighted similar to a hyperlink. Whenever the cursor touches one of these texts, pop-ups appear and if you click on it, it opens aanotar tab and redirects you to their site.

If Akismet is loaded and has all it’s funtions uploaded, it would seem senseless to purchase their product.

Could you arrange for a refund? I wouled appreciate that. Just tell me what you require and I will send you the details.

    Thanes

    Hi Rodney,

I cancelled and refunded your Akismet plan, so you’re all set there. :)

I checked your blog posts, and I do see some spammy looking links there: https://cloudup.com/c6q8EpmcUJP

Those are actually in your blog posts themselves, so you can edit the posts to remove those links.

If you didn’t add those links yourself, I’d recommend checking to see if they are being added by a browser extension in your web browser. Please deactivate all of your browser extensions or add-ons, and then reactivate them, one-by-one, until you identify the one that is inserting the links.

Thank you very much Rachel. I really am indebted to you. It's a new world for a 'semi-newbie' like myself. May I ask what your impression was of the site I am constructing. It needs many tweaks. I want to add images and video's. These video's will be if and by me giving insights, tips and some training to attract subscribers. I am also thinking of creating a page with the businesses that I am a member or affiliate of with a call to action sign-up box for receiving my newsletter broadcasts. Then add a blog-roll of blogs I follow. I want the blogs to back link to my site to attract traffic. Is this a good idea?

I will really appreciate your feedback.
