How do I make my blog completely anonymous?
-
I would like to erase any personal information such as name, email address or other that would in any way connect someone to my personal information when viewing my blog. In other words, make my blog anonymous (I will have a “pen name”), but not private. I don’t want it to link to my facebook, or other blogs that I write. And I don’t want someone who searches for my REAL name through a search engine to be able to locate my blog, or vice versa. What are all of the links, settings, etc that I need to change in order to ensure that my blog is anonymous?
Thank you for your help,

Do not tell any family members, friends or associates you have a blog.
Hide your log-in information so it cannot be found by family members, friends, kids, visitors etc.
Do not include any personally identifying information or mention your location on the blog or any social networking sites or indeed anywhere at all on the internet.
Do not post any images of yourself or anyone you know including your children and/or pets who can be identified as being associated with you.
Purchase a private domain.

PS – don’t talk about anybody you know or work with – they might stumble across it and make the connection about some story (the stupid boss in the break room story) etc.
NEVER mention the blog to anyone – don’t even admit you read it.
Don’t have a username that is even close to your name, nickname etc.

But can people search you via your username? For instance – my email address is on there, and whilst it’s not published can friends/family etc search me through ‘Find what other friends use WordPress’ type of search? I know most sites have a function where you can see whether friends out of your email account are online?

Never use your actual personal email address. Create a throw away email address and change the one you have now to it.
> Setting > General
> Users > Personal Settings -
Nobody but the staff can find your email here – UNLESS you let people know it – anyone can search on your username with Google etc
As noted above:
Don’t have a username that is even close to your name, nickname etc.

If you’ve already been using your personal email address with the account you’ve posted to this forum with, GET A NEW EMAIL ADDRESS AND COMPLETELY NEW ACCOUNT.
Do not have a blogroll of any kind. It’s too tempting to blogroll sites people know you visit.
Minimize linking out. As with blogrolls, people can detect patterns in what you link to. This will limit the popularity of your blog, but it will protect your identity. I, personally, was just really careful about links back when I was anonymous. If someone told me in person about a link, I wouldn’t link it. If someone emailed “raincoaster” about it, no problem.
Use this identity only for your anonymous blog and related social media, eg a Twitter account or Facebook or G+. Do not Friend, Follow, or Circle your “other selves” with this account.
For super levels of protection, have a public blog under your real name. Most people never think you might have more than one.

Oh, and don’t get any paid upgrades, particularly the Domain Upgrade. The privacy option there does give you protection, but I wouldn’t take the risk. Some of the tricksiest hackers and Anonymous members I know have blogs here with no upgrades. No upgrades means no paper trail.
