how do i make my blog searchable on google?

  I am trying to figure out how to make my wordpress more searchable. I have started this post with the hopes that someone we have lost touch with will be able to locate us. I have begun adding tags, but I do not know what to do to have my blog respond to a google (or similar) search.
  I am not super techie, so please explain in the simplest terms you can!
