How do I make my pictures a thumbnail for my post on the sidebar

I have the Ideation and Intent theme, and I thought the pictures on each blog post were supposed to be featured on the side bar with the correlating post, but instead it just has the title with no picture. I also wanted to remove the photo section because it’s placed in an awkward area on my site

It’s not possible to remove the photo section as it is hard coded into the theme. It might be possible to suppress the display using CSS, but that’s above my pay grade and also requires a paid upgrade.
Also, you seem to have only two posts on your site at the moment. Once you start adding more posts with image attachments then they will show up in the photo section.
