How do I moderate comment REPLIES?

  • Unknown's avatar

How do I require manual approval to monitor comment replies, in addition to comments themselves? If that is not possible, can I remove the ability for readers to reply to a comment?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Since you checked off: Comment must be manually approved in your Settings > Discussion page that will include comment replies. Are you noticing comment replies getting through without being moderated? If they are coming from your account it would not need to be moderated as it’s you. But, comments from other accounts would need to be moderated.

Let me know if you have any questions with this!

Yes, we had a couple instances where a reply to a comment was automatically posted and we were neither notified (like we are with comments) or asked to approve it before it was posted. We do see the opportunity to unapprove. In the second instance, we were testing by having an author on the blog log in to wordpress and reply to the comment. After logging out of her account and viewing the blog, the reply was still visible.

Any thoughts? Maybe there is a different way we should test this. If you’d like, feel free to post a reply on a current post with your account – we aren’t yet promoting the site and I don’t mind!

If the user is an author on the blog then it shouldn’t be moderated as they are a user of the blog. It’d only apply to non-users of the blog.

Can you show me where these unapproved comments are being published by non-users? I tried testing this and made a comment on one of your posts, but it is being held for moderation.

We received notification of your comment – thank you for testing.

That makes sense that an author’s comment (or reply to a comment in this case) would automatically be approved, I guess.

Can you try replying to a comment (instead of just commenting) to double check for us that it is, in fact, still held for moderation?

    Thanks!
    Jessi

Thank you! It worked as you said. Thank you for helping us realize the unexpected behavior was because the user was an approved author.

    Have a good day!

    You’re very welcome!

    Cheers!
