How do I move home-page URL to another page?

When I set up my Word Press site, I made the home page a blog. I now want to make the home page a static page. I do I transfer the home-page URL to a static page? Also, the home page doesn’t appear in the list of pages, though it does appear in the site’s menu bar. My site is Lost Pond Press.

I meant to start the third sentence “How do I …”

  • Hi there, you can check out our full guide to setting up a static front page.

the home page doesn’t appear in the list of pages, though it does appear in the site’s menu bar.

If you mean it’s not displaying on the public side of your site, that’s because your home page isn’t published yet, it’s set to draft status.

If you get stuck at any point, just let me know and I’m happy to help.

no, the page is published as it appears in the menu bar. but i want to make it a secondary page, not the home page. the fact that it doesn’t appear among my list of pages is a separate issue. more important is that I want to make another page my home page.

  • Which page would you like to make your homepage? Once you’ve published that page, you would just need to head over to Settings > Reading, select “Static page” next to “Front page displays,” and then select the page you’ve created from the drop-down list.

Full step-by-step instructions are in our guide here:

Thanks. That worked. Perhaps you can help with another problem. I want to install a PayPal button with drop-down options, but WP says that won’t work. Is that true? I have seen a plug-in called Nice PayPal Button. Will that allow the drop-down options? Is it reliable? Are there better and/or cheaper options? Thanks.

  • Glad you sorted out your homepage!

For the PayPal button, since we strip out form code for security reasons, you won’t be able to embed a button with drop-down options, as our PayPal guide mentions. You could definitely create separate payment buttons instead, though.

We don’t allow plugins on WordPress.com for security reasons. Plugins are a feature only available for self-hosted blogs provided through WordPress.org. You can find out more about this topic here: http://support.wordpress.com/plugins/
