How do I post html into my sidebar?

I received a code from my affiliate program that I want to put in my sidebar. I tried putting the code into the text widget, but it keeps disappearing after I click save. Do I need to use the html plugin instead? If so, where can I get/find the html widget?

  • What is the code that you are being asked to use? Can you paste it in here? Click the “code” button, paste the code in, and click the “code” button again.

    Yes, it’s a dynamic html ad. Here’s the code: <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://www.avantlink.com/link.php?ml=215175&p=142378&pw=176534″></script>

  • I’m sorry, but that embed code will not work because we do not allow certain tags on WordPress.com for security reasons, including JavaScript, Flash, iframe, form, and input tags.

These restrictions are in place to prevent any disruptions in service due to potentially malicious code.

Okay, thank you for the information.

It also would let me generate RSS (Text only, html formatting, and customized html/ad) and datafeed (customized text/html ad, CVS, tab-delimited text, XML, and JSON)

Would any of those work on my blog?

  • You would need to test and see what happens. Without seeing the exact code, it is hard for me to comment.
