How do I reactivate my widgets after switching from Bueno to Piano Black theme?
-
I recently switched from Bueno Theme to Piano Black and now I can’t access my widgets feature. Do I need to reactivate the widgets somehow?
-
Hi there, your widgets should be under Appearance > Widgets, here:
https://pastorchrisjackson.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php
Piano Black comes with a single widgetized area, called Sidebar 1, so that’s where all your widgets are at the moment. You can rearrange the order of widgets within that area by dragging and dropping.
If you need further help, just let me know.

Hi,
thank you so much for your response. I see the Sidebar 1 area; however, it appears that my whole widget component is not functioning. I can’t “drag and drop” or even open any of the tabs on the widget page. Additionally, two of my previously installed widgets no longer appear on my home page. Any suggestions?

Hi there – could you please try a different browser, like Firefox or Chrome, and see if your drag-and-drop is working there?
If it’s working OK in another browser, please try clearing your Safari cache:
– Safari > Preferences
– Select the Advanced tab.
– Select “Show Develop menu in menu bar”
– From the menu bar select Develop > Empty CachesCould you let me know which widgets are not displaying so I can have a look? Do you see them under Inactive widgets? I see two that look like they could be the ones:

Once you get drag-and-drop working, you can drag them back over to your sidebar to get them displaying again.

thank you for your help…I’ve tried Firefox and I’ve cleared my cache and the drag and drop still doesn’t work. The two widgets that have disappeared on me are unnamed “image” widgets that have book covers linked to Amazon.

It sounds like some of the required code may not be loading behind the scenes. Would you mind please following these instructions for running something called a “traceroute” to help us troubleshoot?
You can follow the steps listed for Mac and paste the traceroute results here to see if it provides any clues. Thanks for your help.

Could you let me know the missing book titles so I can take a peek? Thanks.
-
Okay…here is the pasted Trace contents. Also, it looks like I do have the book links to Amazon on my blog, but what is missing is the photo. The books are “Loving God when you don’t love the church” and “Praying through sorrows.” Again…thank you for helping me.
Traceroute has started…

One of the broken image links is http://static—dutchsheets.app-hosted.com/media/img/dutchsheets/W117-H180-Bffffff/N/new_books_p_c__edited.jpg which doesn’t seem right. I recommend re-checking the image URL with where you received it.
As for the widgets, would you please make sure that you have Javascript enabled in your browser?
-
thanks for stepping in to help. Java script is enabled, however, the widgets still don’t work. I can’t even open the widgets to do any amending of photo images, etc.
-
Ok, I’d like to rule-out a browser-specific issue.
Would you please try a different browser, like Firefox or Chrome?

Are you trying to open them in the Sidebar 1 area? The won’t open unless they’re in a widget area, so you won’t be able to open them in the Available Widgets area if that’s what you’re trying.
Also, which version of Firefox did you try?
-
Firefox 3.6.13. Yes the widgets are in Sidebar 1. They’re in the usual place that they always were when I was using Bueno theme. It only froze up on me after switching to Piano Black theme. Thanks.
-
Firefox 3.6.13 is quite a bit out of date. Would you please upgrade to the latest release, Firefox 21?

Ok, let’s focus on a specific widget. Try dragging a Text widget to your Sidebar 1 area. Can you do that?
If so, open it, type “It Works!” and click save.
Did that work?
-
No it didn’t work. I can’t grab any widgets at all. Can you access my dashboard page and try to look at it from there?
-
Yeah, that’s the odd part. I can drag around your widgets, even when logged in as you.
Are you using any sort of system-wide ad blocker or security software? If so, is there any difference if you temporarily disable it?
-
Good morning…no I’m really at a loss. I don’t know of any ad blocking or security software. I have “Net Nanny” (a pornography blocking site), but I had Net Nanny before I switched to Piano Black and it worked fine. Could the problem be with the Piano Black template?
