how do i release my domain?

    i allowed my domain to expire because i’ve been setting up a website for on squarespace. i thought it’s been a week since it expires, and yet squarespace still says it’s unavailable. are there some steps that i don’t know about to release the domain?

    Domain expiration is a long process:

    Recover an Expired or Cancelled Domain

    Generally, it can take 90 days or so before an expired domain is made available for registration again by the registration. And if it is snatched up at auction by a domain squatter, it may never be available for registration.

    We advise people who wish to use their WordPress.com registered domain with another webhost to either use these instructions to point their domain to that new webhost:

    Or these instructions to transfer their domain’s registration to a new registrar:

    I would strongly encourage you to renew your domain if it is important to you and your site plans.
