How do I remove an element from my site?

There is a small and ugly image that has been added to my site… it is an abstract piece that appears at the top of my page. I have clicked on it which has sent me to Gravatar. When I go to delete this idiotic and ugly icon, it asks me to upload a picture, which I do… REPEATEDLY!! BUT to no avail… the ugly icon is still there and the uploaded image is nowhere to be found… WTF!!
How the hell is this removed – PERMANENTLY??

There is the element I speak of next to my posting… that annoying icon! Other ppl have their pics or images posted instead… how do I change this??
