How do I swap two blogs that I own – and thus the urls

    Hi All,

I have a current blog in use and I have also created a new test version with a new template. My question is can I at some point in the future swap them so that the new test blog takes the name of the blog that is currently in use (and with it the url)? Or will I have to apply a template manually to change my existing blog ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Unfortunately, no. At least not as simply as you’d think. With WordPress.com sites, the only way to get the content of one site into the content of another is through export and import. See the relevant support pages:
    Export — https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/
    Import — https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/.

You could export the content of blogs A and B to external files. Then empty the content of B, and import the exported content of A to B. Then empty the content of A and import the exported content of B to A.

Regarding moving images from one site to another, a note in the Export support page says:

This [the Export process] will ONLY export your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags; uploads and images may need to be manually transferred to the new blog.

I haven’t used it for awhile and don’t know whether images are likely to be exported and imported successfully anymore. I used to transfer images with export and import with no trouble at all, but it’s been a few years since I last tried it.

Themes are not exported or imported. Just assign the theme you want before importing content to a new or different site.
