How do I take back my email/account details?

    Disclaimer – I am in my 50s and get confused by the online world sometimes :) Several years ago my then 15 year old daughter needed to set up a wordpress blog for her AP Lit class in high school. With my permission she used my email address to set it up. That was all she did with it – hasn’t used it since (although that solves the mystery of why her picture shows up sometimes as my Google profile). I would like to start my own blog now but my email is linked to this. Can I just change the user name and picture or do I need to close down this and start over fresh? Or will hitting close all accounts just lock me out of ever having a wordpress account on that email? Will I impact anything else that my daughter may have her user name on?

    Hi there,

    You can just change the username and add your own profile picture, yes. No need to close the account.

    You can also delete your daughter’s site, or just set it to private so it’s no longer visible online if you prefer. Or if she now has her own WordPress.com account you can even transfer the site over to her account if she still wants it.

    Keep in mind you can have as many sites in your account as you want, so your daughter’s sit existing in your account does not prevent you from creating a new site.
