How do I transfer my domain from WordPress.com to WordPress.org
-
I purchased my domain via WordPress.com, before finding out that I cannot customise my themes or plugins on wordpress.com. I then decided to use a web hosting company called Bluehost, but WordPress.com already has my domain, how would I go about rectifying this? Just by updating the nameservers?
I have tried editing the DNS of my WordPress.com domain to redirect it to my web hostt account with the nameserver IP’s, but when I entered my URL into the browser, it just took me back to my original blog on WordPress.com.
I feel this is such a massive confusion on WordPress’ end and this is completely unfair on a new user to go through this process. I’d just like to find an easy way to be able to transfer everything over to WordPress.org so I can upload my own themes. Thanks in advance and apologies for the frustration.

Your domain is subject to a 60 day transfer lock. We have no control over this. However, you can set the name servers so that your domain points to your new site:
Use the actual name servers, not the IP addresses. I believe Bluehost’s look something like this:
ns1.bluehost.com
ns2.bluehost.comOnce the 60 day transfer lock is up, you can transfer your domain to Bluehost following these steps:
Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with!
