How do I update my urls to my newly registered domain?
-
I have registered a new domain through wordpress (lifesmilescribbler.com) and set it to be my primary blog address. This does appear as my site address in web browsers.
However, my old wordpress site (thewordelf.wordpress.com) urls are still showing in my dashboard, and any new media I add have a url of my old wordpress site. I can’t set my new domain as my blog url in wordpress, despite having set it as my primary blog.
I just want all my old files and new files, and wordpress dashboard, to reflect my new domain and not my old one.
Please help. Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Your site’s free address thewordelf.wordpress.com address is an internal address that we use to make sure nothing ever happens to your site’s content, even if your custom domain lifesmilescribbler.com expires or you decide to stop using it. All WordPress.com sites with a custom domain also have a free WordPress.com address behind the scenes, for example in your dashboard or in your media. However, visitors to your site only see the custom domain name.
If you’d like to change your WordPress.com address, for example to make it match your custom domain, you can do so by following these instructions: Changing a Blog Address
Keep in mind that this is purely for your benefit, as the WordPress.com name change will be invisible to the visitors to your site. Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Hi
Thank you for the response. I would like to change my wordpress address to lifesmilescribbler.wordpress.com but I have already got this address linked to another blog (which I have never used, it was simply to make sure I had the name) and wordpress doesn’t seem to allow me to just swap them. I either have to transfer it to someone else or risk losing it permanently. Is there a simple way to do this?
Also, as a side point (sorry), I am on bloglovin, and it seems bloglovin are pulling a 1×1 pixel image from my posts, instead of the photos I have at the start of each post. I’m not putting in this 1×1 pixel image into my posts and I don’t know where they are coming from or how to get rid of them. My bloglovin address is: http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/12669343. Can you help?
Thank you!

Hi there,
There isn’t a way to just swap two blog addresses like that. The simplest recommendation I have is to choose a different address that you want to have in your dashboard (since it is only visible to you) and change your blog’s address to that.
If you really want lifesmilescribbler.com to be linked to lifesmilescribbler.wordpress.com, here’s what you can do:
- Set up lifesmilescribbler.wordpress.com with the same theme, widgets, and any other appearance settings you have on lifesmilescribbler.com.
- Export all of your blog’s content from lifesmilescribbler.com.
- Import that content into lifesmilescribbler.wordpress.com.
- Once lifesmilescribbler.wordpress.com looks the way you want it to, reply here to let me know and I can transfer your followers, stats, and your domain lifesmilescribbler.com to that site.
However, please keep in mind that moving your domain to a different WordPress.com site like this might not be perfectly seamless. For example, we’re not able to move your “likes” to another site, so those won’t be transferred in the move.
Since visitors to your site don’t see the WordPress.com address used for your site, I’d recommend the first option rather than all the steps involved in moving to lifesmilescribbler.wordpress.com.
Also, as a side point (sorry), I am on bloglovin, and it seems bloglovin are pulling a 1×1 pixel image from my posts, instead of the photos I have at the start of each post.
That 1×1 pixel image is used for tracking your blog’s stats and can’t be removed. However, changing your Reading Settings so that the setting For each article in a feed is set to “Full text” will include your post’s photos in your blog’s feed (which is what’s used on Bloglovin). When that setting is set to “Summary,” your post’s photos aren’t included in your blog’s feed.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
