How do you get widgets to appear onto blog homepage?

  My widgets aren’t showing up on my blog page even after editing which ones I would like to be shown on which sidebar and saving the changes. I have refreshed the page as suggested but they still aren’t appearing. for example I have put the calender widget on one of my sidebars but they just aren’t appearing? I wondered whether they would appear once I start blogging but I am clueless…need help!

  Widgets have no data that they can display until you actually publish Posts.
