How do you select which image will be the featured thumbnail when sharing links on Facebook?
-
Hey, there! Is there a way to control which image in my blog post will be the set image used as the feature thumbnail when sharing the blog link on other websites like Facebook? I want the first image in the blog layout to be the one that shows as the thumbnail on other sites but can’t seem to figure it out. Instead of showing the first image I have posted in the blog post itself, another image from the middle of my post will be the thumbnail featured. Even if I use the formatting option in WordPress when I’m editing to post to ‘set featured image’ it doesn’t correct the issue when I share a link on other sites. Thanks in advance for any helpful hints!

Hi there,
This is controlled on Facebook’s end, but if you use a featured image that’s big enough (try not to use smaller than 500 pixels wide), Facebook will almost always use that.
If you don’t set a featured image, Facebook will pick whatever image they think is best from the other images appearing on the page. This will not necessarily be the first image.
Even if I use the formatting option in WordPress when I’m editing to post to ‘set featured image’ it doesn’t correct the issue when I share a link on other sites.
What do you mean by “other sites”? What sites are you speaking of?
