How do you turn off subscriber email notifications for new posts?

How do you turn off subscriber email notifications for new posts? i.e. how can I do a post without it automatically being emailed out to people? I still want it on the blog – just not emailed. This is a school related blog and people are happy to go to the blog and not be emailed.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can do that by setting your site to be private, making the post, and then setting the site to be public again. It’s a little roundabout, but the notification setup is designed to promote posts, not hide them.

Take a look through that page and let me know if you have any further questions. I’ll be happy to help.

Great – thanks. I get that, but sometimes I’d like to use posts rather than pages and don’t want to inundate people with emails!! I’ll try your suggestion. Appreciate the prompt response.
I have another couple of issues – different topics – do I need to start again with new questions?

How do you do an excerpt with ‘more’ in pages – I can see how you do it with posts but it says you can’t use the more tag for pages.

The instructions you read are correct, the “more” tag does not work with pages, only posts.
What are you trying to do specifically? Could this help the situation:
-
I want to put up resources for parents but rather than have all the detail on the page I want to use ‘more’ so they can unpack further info if they want. I have already broken up topics into pages but there are potentially a lot of resources per topic. I don’t want the page to look to text dense or be too long. Hence the ‘more’ idea. This is static info so page is better than post.
-
I think your best bet is to make more pages with the topics drilled down further and then link to those from a “overview” type of page.
Does that make sense?
-
What’s the sensible limit to the number of pages – I keep reading how too many pages will slow down a site.

On various forums when I was googling trying to find the answer to my issues, but I never know how much to trust this stuff. While I have you there, tell me if you want me to stop :) – for another cause I have an old blogger site which I am transferring to a wordpress one – I’d like to bring across all the old posts going back some years as a historical archive (it’s for a community garden) – can you direct me to a help page on that. Also is there a simple way for me to bring across all the images – there are quite a lot. My knowledge is pretty basic as you can tell – so I need it to be simple :) I have already cut and pasted the info which wasn’t a lot – just the old posts and images that are the issue. New wordpress site is mosmancommunitygardeners.com.au Many thanks

Have you read this support document on importing from blogger:

Regarding number of pages on a site. In general, I would not worry about that. Images, embeds and overall page length are far more likely culprits as far as a slow loading site than number of pages. After all, think about how many pages sites like amazon.com or espn.com have.
