How does backdating blog posts affect copyright?

Someone is claiming my work as their own and whilst it does not yet appear on their blog, I am concerned they could add a post and backdate it so that it appears to pre-date my copyright. How does WordPress monitor this, does anyone know? Do they have the actual publication date identified to cover this?
