How does wordpress records financial transactions of my e-commerce site

    Hi WordPress team :)

I am currently trying to create my e-commerce site on WordPress. However, I am unfamiliar with WordPress backend therefore want to clarify several technical questions.

    1. When an order is generated, will WordPress record this transaction (together with all the invoices such as tax or quote) in its backend and the store owner can review it on a particular page (for example transaction record page)? Or the transaction will only be handled by the e-commerce plugin plus payment gateway such as PayPal.
    2. Same question for custom payment, after an order was paid by a customer, will WordPress keep a copy of all the receipts and transactions in its back end and allow the store owner to review it somewhere in the WordPress site? Or it will only be recorded by payment processor & gateway provider instead.

    Thank you for your time!

  • Hi there,

    1. When an order is generated, will WordPress record this transaction (together with all the invoices such as tax or quote) in its backend and the store owner can review it on a particular page (for example transaction record page)? Or the transaction will only be handled by the e-commerce plugin plus payment gateway such as PayPal.

This depends on the integration with the payment processor, but most payment gateways have plugins for WooCommerce that integrated with the dashboard and lets you see all the transactions there.

    2. Same question for custom payment, after an order was paid by a customer, will WordPress keep a copy of all the receipts and transactions in its back end and allow the store owner to review it somewhere in the WordPress site? Or it will only be recorded by payment processor & gateway provider instead.

We are not involved in those transactions. We only provide the hosting and the tools to build your website. All the transactions are stored on the payment processor’s end and you can view them through their dashboard or integrate them into your WooCommerce dashboard with the use of add-ons.

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

    Hi Fstat,

Thank you for your quick response!

For the first questions, can I assume this can be applied to BigCommerce or WPforms plugin on WordPress as well? Sorry if my question is too specific as I am choosing the best solution at the moment.

Again, thank you so much for the time and effort.

    Gary

  • Hi Gary,

It’s best if you check the documentation of the plugin you’re going to use. Here, we can only advise on the WordPress.com platform.

To clear up any further confusion, there is WordPress.com and WordPress.org, and they are two different entities.

We, WordPress.com, are a cloud-based platform where we manage WordPress sites, whereas WordPress.org is stand-alone software that you can download and self-host with any other hosting.

You can find more details about WordPress.com and WordPress.org on this support page:

    https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/.

That said, if you’d like to create your site on WordPress.com, we have a plan specific for creating e-commerce sites. It comes with WooCommerce and a bunch of extensions already pre-installed:

    https://wordpress.com/support/ecommerce-plan/.

If you would want to choose other extensions, you could also install WooCommerce or any compatible plugin on plan Business:

    https://wordpress.com/support/business-plan/.

If you decide to host your site elsewhere, you’d probably want to ask for help at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ instead.
