Hi there!
When you change your name servers (also called NS records), your A records should be automatically updated for your new host. Any custom subdomains you have set up with CNAME records may need to be manually transferred over, but if you didn’t set up any special subdomains then you don’t need to worry about it!
Let me know if you have any further questions!

the A record still shows the “handled by wordpress” mark and doesn’t let me change it… I just Changed the nameservers to the new host, do I have to wait strictly 72 hours?

Sorry for the delay!
Once you change your name servers, the host you’ve pointed them at will control the rest of your DNS settings and the ones in our system will have no affect on your domain. Any further changes to your domain will have to be done through your new host’s domain manager.
Does that clear things up? Let me know if you have any other questions!
