How Many Users Can Work On My Site At Once

    Hello,

I’m building this site for a class. I was hoping I could invite 15-20 students. Could the students all be on the website, creating and editing their pages at the same time? Will there be a substantial lag? Is this possible?

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hi there,

You can invite as many contributors as you want to your site, and there shouldn’t be any issues on our end of things with all of them accessing the site at the same time. The only potential lag I can think of would be caused by all your students using the same internet connection to access the site on your end.

    A couple notes, though:

Keep in mind that only one account can edit a specific post or page at a time – once someone starts editing a post the post is locked for editing by anyone else until that person leaves the editor again.

Then, do your students already have WordPress.com accounts? If you’re planning to have them sing up for accounts in class, we’ll need to whitelist your IP address. We limit the number of new accounts that can be created from the same IP in a certain time in order to prevent automated account creation by bots, and that could also lead to your students being blocked if they all try to create accounts at the same time on the same internet connection.

Please ask your school’s ISP or whoever administrates your network for the full range of IPs used on your network, and let us know, along with the name of your school, and we can get that sorted out for you.

Your students can use this link to create an account without being required to also create a site at the same time: https://wordpress.com/start/account/user/
