How to add a domain without upgrading to WordPress Premium
-
How do I add a domain to my site without paying $96/year?
I already own a domain, but now wish to add a WordPress site to it.
When I go through [Domains] – [Pick a custom domain] – [Use a domain I own] – [Map your domain] it adds a $96 annual fee for WordPress Premium. When I remove this, it takes me back out of the entire process, and going back in adds the $96/year fee back in.
I don’t want to pay more to change the WordPress features available, I just wish to direct it to my own domain which I already pay for. How do I do this?Site: (email visible only to moderators and staff).

Hi there,
You should be able to click the click the
upgradebutton, then theadd to cartbutton for the Personal Plan if you do not want to pay for the Premium Plan. You should be able to add the domain you already own with the Personal Plan:
You can absolutely use your custom domain with your WordPress.com site with or without a paid plan. You don’t need to buy a paid plan to have a custom domain here. You only need to upgrade to a paid plan if you need the features of that plan.
One of the features of all of our paid plans is to allow users to set their custom domain as primary. If your custom domain is not primary, people will still end up at your site if they type your custom domain into the address bar.
