  I want to start working on a website that without connecting to a domain. I already own a domain and want to connect, once the site is ready to go live.

  Hi there,

  If you want to make your site with us on WordPress.com, you can use the free address we created for you when you make a new site to work on it until you’re ready. Just go to https://wordpress.com/start/site/ and don’t select a custom domain to create a site on the free plan.

  Once you’re ready to connect your domain, you can do so using the Domain Mapping upgrade included in all our paid plans:

  https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

  You can also add a plan now, so the plan features and live chat support are available while you work on your site, and then only add the domain mapping later, once you’re ready.
