how to change email and account details

How can you change contact details on a wordpress account when you cannot log in to the account? Is there a real person at wordpress who we can talk to?

I’m a real person :) The short answer, is that you can’t change details of an account with out access to it. Is this an account that you used to own and can no longer access? Or is someone using your personal information fraudulently? Please let me know which site is involved and I will take a closer look. Thanks.

Thank goodness there is someone out there, I do hope you can help. I will try to explain. The domain is set up with WordPress, it was set up quite a few years ago. We are a charity organisation, (I am not sure how much information to give on a public forum which is why I would like to speak to a person). The person who set up the charity domain is no longer able to access the account, although she has received an email to ask her to renew by beginning of May otherwise the domain will stop. We want to keep using the domain name as our website is up and running. However we want to change the contact from this persons personal one to our organisational one so we can continue to pay the renewal. Can you advise me as to how I can do this. I do have a forwarded copy of the persons email but she cannot get into her account to change it and I cannot see how to change it either. I look forward to hearing from you, many thanks, Sally -

It’s always good to be cautious about what information you post in public. It’s a good rule to follow. Here, we advise that you do not post any personal contact information details or payment details. Our forum software will automatically strip out any email addresses that are posted. And, as staff, we can always redact any other personal bits that don’t belong hanging out in public.

If they received the email, then they should try to sign in at https://wordpress.com/ Now, if that is not successful they can reset the password. That’s the next step. If the password reset does not work let me know.
The account can also be recovered through proof of ownership. There are several accepted items. More details about that are on the account recovery form. https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/

That’s a great idea and will certainly cut down on future confusion around the renewals and accounts. Let’s work on getting access to the account first. Then we can move on to transferring the ownership.
