How to change website design and layout

    I already have a wordpress ecommerce website but it was created by a graphic designer, not a purchased or free ‘theme’. It’s looking a bit dated now and I have been recommended Shopify (!) but I like WordPress! I can change products myself, have technical support for things I can’t do, everything I need to run my business is already set up. All I want is to change the home page design slightly and add a new section where the customer can see ‘All products’ together from a category, rather than having to choose ‘category/product item’ then choose from those ‘thumbnails’. Basically, a shortcut for impatient, time-restricted customers.
    Can anyone help? Is it straightforward to change a current site? Should I start again with a ‘theme’ that’s closest to what I want? If so, do I then have to transfer my domain, shopping cart etc. etc. over to it?
    It looks like, if I choose a ‘theme’, I have to pay monthly (like Shopify)? At the moment I don’t pay but I have to pay an annual charge to my tech guy, another to Romancart for my ecommerce, Akismet for spam and hosting company for my domain.
    I would love some advice here, please! I just don’t know where to start….

    In case you need help with a site using the open source WP software, you’ll want to head over to https://wordpress.org/support/ where you’ll find documentation and users who have more experience with the software you are using. If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums you can register one on the top of that page.

    Just to clarify, this support forum assists users hosted on the WPcom platform.

    Thank you for replying to my garbled message!

    I now understand I have a self hosted website on WordPress.com.
    I can’t change the design without a web designer and developer. Although I can update products, prices, text etc.

    Therefore, it would be easier for me to change from self hosted to a business plan, I think. That way I could choose a ‘theme’ and build a new site myself. The help I’d have access to on WordPress will be invaluable!

    I have since done a lot of reading on WordPress. After which I logged into my account and asked my question again – this time in a more logical manner! I was advised to change to WordPress.com/business plan. It makes sense.
