How to customise my template more freely

    Hello, I am starting a wordpress site for the first time and I’m a little confused with how restricting it seems to be. I have installed the ‘Shapely’ template and I want to do a few things such as remove the bland white header (so that the image fills the entire screen with text over the image) and add some images freely around my site to link to specific blog categories. I feel very restricted by the template but i’m sure it’s just my lack of knowledge. How can I edit more freely?

    Hi there, it looks like your WP site followintheirfootsteps is hosted with Bluehost.

    For help with a site using the open source WP software, you’ll want to head over to https://wordpress.org/support/ where you’ll find documentation and users who have more experience with the software you are using. If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums you can register one on the top of that page. For help with a specific template, you’ll want to check with the theme’s author or post in their support forum directly.

    Just to clarify, this support forum assists users of the WPcom platform. WPcom (where we are ) and WP are separate entities with different documentation and support forums. More information about the differences can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
