How to disengage from WordPress

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t think that wordpress is what I need for my website–I’m looking to set up the digital equivalent of a Yellow Pages listing, I don’t want to start a blog. How can I either do a simple .com type website or disengage completely?

    Thanks

    Hi,

    I don’t want to start a blog.

The free WordPress.com platform has great flexibility. You can use it to create a website without blog posts. Just set the front page to display a static page rather than the default posts page. See the Set a Static “Home” Page support page.

If no posts are created, there will be no reason to provide a link to them, but that can be easily accomplished in a custom menu should you decide to publish an occasional post.

Changing a WordPress.com site to a .com site involves acquiring a custom domain, which is a paid upgrade. See the Domains support page.

    …or disengage completely?

You may delete the site, but see the precautions and alternatives at the top of the Delete Site support page. WordPress.com accounts can not be deleted, but they can be left inactive, and ties to them severed. See the suggestions in the Deleting Accounts support page.
