How to get my old domain back

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I just recently started with wordpress. I have been using the free version. My original domain was academicswithjack.wordpress.com and when I changed the topic of my blog, I wanted to change my domain. The domain I changed to was superblysocial.wordpress.com. I didn’t realize I couldn’t do this without upgrading my plan and now, not only can I not get into academicswithjack.wordpress.com but I can’t get to my new domain either. This is really annoying as I didn’t know it would happen and have been working on this website. Is there anything I can do to fix this and get my website back to normal?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • So, let’s see what we can do to sort out the confusion here…

I didn’t realize I couldn’t do this without upgrading my plan

So, you shoud not need to upgrade from the free plan to change your free site URL. You would need to upgrade if you wanted to change from a basic WordPress.com domain (yourgroovysite.wordpress.com) to a custom domain (yourgroovysite.com). But not to just change a _________.wordpress.com URL.

The domain I changed to was superblysocial.wordpress.com.

The WordPress.com user account you are posting from is the owner of superblysocial.wordpress.com. You should be able to access it to post/edit. What happens when you try?

not only can I not get into academicswithjack.wordpress.com

So, once you change away from an old domain, you lose the ability to get back to it. The change is permanent. That is why we have this warning when people change URLs https://wordpress.com/support/changing-site-address/

Once you change the “example” part of example.wordpress.com, the old address will stop working. Visitors will not be redirected to your new site address. The old address will not be available for use again.

So, let me know what happens when you try to access http://superblysocial.wordpress.com/ and we can go from there to get you reconnected with your site!
