How to hide sidebar categories, please?
-
Hi, I’m using Light Demo and have been blogging on WordPress for more than 13 years. Love the site and the theme; however, I changed the blog focus about two months ago and would like to hide the sidebar categories. Having some difficulty doing this. Thank you in advance.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @nykeypad, the Categories section on your site looks like it’s coming from the sidebar widgets area.
Try this from your dashboard:
- Go to Appearance > Widgets.
- Open the Sidebar widget area.
- Find the Categories block/widget.
- Click the three dots on that block and choose Delete block, or remove it if it appears as an older widget.
- Click Update to save.
If you do not see Appearance > Widgets, try Appearance > Customize > Widgets > Sidebar instead, since some older themes still route widget editing through the Customizer.
WordPress.com has a guide for widgets here too:

Hi, I was unclear. I meant if I create new categories, then how to create another heading? I plan to archive/save the former categories under one parent heading. Thank you.

Your categories are still managed under Posts > Categories. To group the older ones together, create a new parent category there first, something like “Archive” or “Previous topics.” Then edit each older category and choose that new category from the Parent Category dropdown.
For the sidebar, you can add the Categories List block back under Appearance > Widgets > Sidebar. In that block’s settings, turn on Show hierarchy. That should list the older categories nested under the parent category instead of all mixed together.
For a separate label above the list, add a Heading block above the Categories List block in the same sidebar area.

Thank you. I shall have to work on this as I’m used to the Classic Editor and its format. Appreciate this very much.
