How to keep the domain name but use it for a new site outside wordpress?

  Hi,
  we’re creating a new version of our website that will be hosted on another server.
  Can you please let me know what will be the procedure to delete our current one and use the domain name to point on the new website.
  Even better, would it be possible to cancel the subscription and release the domain name so we could buy it directly via the provider of our new server? It would make things easier for us to maintain.

  You can cancel the domain, but then anyone could buy it, not just you. Better idea is just to transfer it to your new site:

  http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/
