How to make money on wordpress.com

Hi,
I just started a blog and am trying to figure out how to run ads. I just started and am not expecting to make much money, if any at all, but would still like to know how so that I can hopefully make some in the future. Is the only way to generate revenue on wordpress.com through wordads? And can I only get wordads once I’ve established a community on wordpress?

If you require other advertising, you might be interested in a self-hosted (WordPress.org) installation. There are no restrictions on advertising if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities. The short answer is, work on building your traffic first. Then move forward on WordAds or whatever other ad network you decide to use.
