How to manipulate the visibility of your categories?
-
I have changed the visibility settings in two category widgets so each widget only displays one parent category and its children categories, but when I save a refresh my webpage it does not update. How do I fix this? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,

It’s not possible to limit what a widget displays with the visibility settings. Widget visibility settings can only be used to determine where a widget displays, and doesn’t display, not what a widget displays.

Okay. So there there any way to organize categories to display parent and child categories under the categories widget?

Yes. Place a check at the “Show hierarchies” option in the widget. However, this won’t allow you to specify which categories and subcategories you want to include. One way to do that would be to create a custom menu and display the menu either in the header area (instead of the default menu) or with a custom menu widget. Include selected categories and subcategories, nested under the categories, in the menu structure.
Display Posts Shortcode, customized to display only specified categories and subcategories, could be used. However, I’m unaware of any simple means of differentiating between the categories and subcategories in the customization options available for display posts shortcode.
