How to purchase an existing, no longer maintained WordPress site.

    Could I send it privately? I’m paranoid someone might swipe it from under me since the domain name is up for grabs.

    If the domain name is available, it’s not a WordPress.com address. WordPress.com addresses do not become available again if they are abandoned or deleted and the only way you could obtain an existing WordPress.com address is if the current owner transferred it to you.

    That only happens with custom domains, and if a custom domain is currently available, you should be able to register it using any of our paid plans while creating a new WordPress.com site, or by going to My Site ->Domains ->Add on an existing WordPress.com site.

    We have no control over a domain name that is not currently registered, even if it had been registered with us in the past, but we’re just one of hundreds of registrar on the web through whom you would be able to register such a domain.
