How to update WordPress without breaking plugins?

  • Unknown's avatar

Currently on the blog of my website Camisas Seleção Brasileira I am using WordPress but in a very old version.

How to update without breaking plugins, themes…?

Is there a release log in WordPress that says the version has a high risk of breaking third-party plugins?

    Thx

  • Hey there, your site isn’t actually hosted here on our services. Here’s what I’d recommend though:

    – If needed, set the site in Maintenance Mode (there are a handful of plugins for this)

    – Make a full backup (files + database!)

    – Run the update. Make sure plugins are up to date too. Take off maintenance mode and check everything to be sure it’s all good!

    – If you have trouble, you can use the HealthCheck plugin for troubleshooting, or you can just revert to your backup.

Going forward, these forums are for the sites hosted here on our servers. If you use other hosting, there is another forum for the free WordPress software. You can find that here:
    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

And if you’d like more info about the difference between the WordPress software and the services by WordPress.com, we have more info here. We provide secure hosting, manage updates, etc. :) Let us know if you have any questions about that!
